COMBINING DIFFERENT CONCURRENT TRAINING METHODS IN OLDER ADULTS WITH METABOLIC SYNDROME

چکیده

ABSTRACT Introduction: There are no studies comparing the effects of different concurrent training routines [i.e., a resistance plus high-intensity interval (RT+HIIT) program compared to an RT moderate-intensity continuous (RT+MICT) program] on cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and physical performance in older adults with metabolic syndrome (MetS). Objective: This study aimed compare two routines, RT+HIIT versus RT+MICT, CRF MetS. Methods: Thirty-nine participants (67.0±6.7 years age) were randomly assigned into three groups: RT+ MICT, HIIT control group (CON, exercise). The 12-week consisted 3 sessions/week (~50 minutes/session). aerobic component was customized for iso-caloric energy expenditure (P≥0.217) iso-load distribution (TRIMP, P≥0.893), however MICT had longer time (P≤0.01). We evaluated pre- post-evaluation (VO2peak), capacity [power lower limbs (PLL), running velocity, exhaustion], plasma lactate, rate perceived exertion (RPE), resting heart (HRrest), peak (HRpeak). Results: At end intervention, significant increase VO2peak observed only (P=0.01), but CON both RT+MICT groups improvement (P≤0.02). Only HRrest as baseline group. Also, groups, not CON, significantly improved speed, exhaustion, PLL (P<0.05). changes HRpeak, RPE, lactate any groups. Conclusion: Our results suggest that 12 weeks or improve lower-limb performance. our provides additional benefits Level evidence II; Randomized Experimental Study.

Hyperleptinemia, Adiposity, and Risk of Metabolic Syndrome in Older Adults

Background. Abdominal adiposity and serum leptin increase with age as does risk of metabolic syndrome. This study investigates the prospective association between leptin and metabolic syndrome risk in relation to adiposity and cytokines. Methods. The Health, Aging, and Body Composition study is a prospective cohort of older adults aged 70 to 79 years. Baseline measurements included leptin, cyto...

the lipid part. We agree that the peroxidation of lipids present in LDL is not the only way to generate LDL oxidation. Direct oxidation of the protein moiety of the lipoprotein also occurs. The process of LDL oxidation leads to the modification of the protein moiety of LDL, either directly—via aldehydes released from endothelial cells, as Holvoet described, or via myeloperoxidase-derived hypoch...
